The fact is that there has been a great spurt in tourism to this off-shore Indian Territory lately with the government relaxing some of the hitherto stringent conditions on tourists especially of the foreign origin. There are still many unchartered areas in the islands fit for development of adventure sports. One such place is the Bharatpur beach at Neil Island.
Bharatpur Beach on the shores of the Neil Island is one of the more accessible spots in the Union territory of Andaman and Nicobar. This beautiful island is nestled in the calm seas to the north east of the capital Port Blair. The Bharatpur beach is a coral rich area and often called the coral kingdom of Andaman. It is charming for so many reasons - its clear waters, the untrodden miles of sparkling sands, the feeling of being lonely but with habitation in sight are some attractive features of this beach.
Activities at Bharatpur Beach
Snorkelling and Scuba divingThe beach offers some underwater sports adventures. It is famous for its scuba diving and snorkelling activities. The low level of water up to about 500 m from the shore makes the undersea activities very safe.
Snorkelling and scuba diving are different activities. In snorkelling the diver holds a snorkel or a mask and tube into mouth and breaths through the mouth. The depth level for the diver is very low.
Scuba diving is different. It takes expert guidance to go under water. The diver may go deep into the sea and look at the sea- and all that it holds. It requires a special tight fitting suit to be worn to prevent the underwater difference in temperature. It also requires an elaborate system of helmeted oxygen apparatus to breathe. Bharatpur beach offers facility for both types of sports.
The Coral Reef ViewThe coral reef viewing is another USP of the beach. The pristine blue waters of the sea around Bharatpur beach provide good visibility under the sea bed in the coral reef area. The best part of the coral growth is its being non-lethal in nature in most areas but still a guide is essential to lead to the best spots.
